After qualifying at Southview Equestrian Centre at the end of September the Tarporley High School show jumping squad of Abbey Hitchenson on Fly-By, (Y9), Ellie Dawson on Clonross Henry (Y11), Rose Diggle on Crackerjack (Y7) and Lucy Hassall on Starlight Clara (Y8) – and parents – set off on a three and a half hour drive to the National Schools Equestrian Association championships in Milton Keynes during the recent October half term holiday.
They competed against the other twenty eight finalists in the annual championships of the 95cm show jumping class. The team did an excellent job with two clear rounds from Abbey and Rose and an unfortunate four faults from Lucy. Unfortunately Ellie’s borrowed pony, Henry, decided that he wasn’t in the mood for jumping so their score was discarded.
Up until the last team to jump. THS were positioned within the top eight and would have gone through to the ‘jump off’ in the evening. However the last team, Shrewsbury High school, just knocked Tarporley out of the eight.
After a very long day the team of four came a very respectable 9th .
This was the first season we have had an affiliated team, so they showed fantastic effort and certainly hope to continue the way they started with future events.

14 year old Tarporley High School student, Rhodri Gale, finished the winter ski season in style with an impressive 3rd place in his age group in the slalom event at the British Alpine Championships in Meribel, France. This resulted in him being selected to take part in the next stage for the British Children’s U16 team.
Over the summer months he will be making the most of indoor ski facilities, by attending twice weekly race training sessions, in addition to having the opportunity to develop his moguls and boarder cross skills. He is looking forward to putting these skills into practice in the English Moguls Championships and several other competitions to be held over the summer, along with many other slalom racing events.
