(Celebrated in school on Fri 13th March!)

In celebration of World Pi Day 2015, your Maths Lead Learners would like to invite you to enter our Story Writing Competition.

Our competition is open to students, staff and parents alike.

The rules are very simple:

The second word, 1 letter

The third word, 4 letters……..

……. and then continue this pattern, following the digits of Pi (π)

The longest, most impressive story/poem wins!

The winning entry will be published in the next School Newsletter and the writer will win an edible prize (can you guess what this might be?!!)

Please hand your entries to Miss Blackhurst by Friday 13th March.  There will be a postbox in C5 in which to place your entries.

Also featuring on World Pi Day:

  • Pie Eating Competition at lunch
  • Pie Sale at break

On Wednesday 22nd October the Lead Learners for mathematics presented our ideas to the maths department during a 2 hour staff meeting.

So far we have:

  • Attended a Lead Learner Conference
  • Begun to put together our Development Plan
  • Worked with Staff, Ms Lee and Governors in Sharing Best Practice Sessions
  • Supported within the Maths department on Open Evening on Thursday 25th September
  • Completed a Student Survey across Key Stage 3 to get ideas for ways forward
  • Started to plan for World Pi Day on 14th March 2015

We discussed what else we would like to do to support the maths department and how we could drive our ideas forward.

The maths Lead Learners (myself included) made a small presentation based on the lunchtime meetings we have had with Miss Blackhurst and the development plan that we have started to put together.

  • We would like to support teachers by peer assessing other pupils’ books.  We think that other students would like to receive feedback from Lead Learners too!
  • We would like to take responsibility for organising displays around the maths department
  • We would like to put together a range of maths revision quizzes to be used in lessons
  • We would like to help organise World Maths Day and World Pi Day
  • We would like to help on the Year 6 Challenge Days

We are really excited about putting our plans into action!

Communications Lead Learner Meeting

CommunicationsLeadLearnerMeeting

On Wednesday the 4th of June the Lead Learners and teachers for the communications faculty (that is languages and IT) met up to discuss our ideas for lessons, our own involvement in Open Evenings and the like, and even homework.

The languages Lead Learners (myself included) made a small presentation based on the few lunchtime meetings we’d had with Miss Pizzuto and various other members of the faculty (thanks again Mrs Jones for the cakes!), which ended up being mostly lead by us. Representatives from all KS3 years were there for languages and we all took a turn at presenting what we had previously discussed. Unfortunately, we can’t watch movies all the time (although the idea was brought up as an incentive), but we certainly pressed the love for food I’m certain almost all students agree with. World Languages day was also mentioned, and we hope to promote it in the coming years to be a bigger event than ever.

The meeting was also a chance for the IT Lead learners to brainstorm some ideas, and maybe to even incorporate some of our own into IT. Hopefully these meetings will continue and we all look forward to seeing some of our ideas implemented into the scheme of work.
