Foreign Language Spelling Bee Regional Final!
On Wednesday 19th March, four of our Year 7 French students (Katy Adkins, John Booher, Kizzy Whitehurst and Laura Youngs) travelled to Manchester Metropolitan University to compete in the North West Regional Final of the Routes into Languages Spelling Bee 2014.
During the First Round of the competition, contestants had one minute to accurately say and spell out as many French words as they could in target language and from memory. Not only did our students have to learn 150 French words in preparation for this, but they each had to compete in front of a panel of native speakers in a university lecture theatre full of spectators! This was a daunting prospect for all contestants, but our four students from Tarporley rose to the challenge and performed extremely well, impressing the judges and their audience! When it came to announcing the top four spellers from each group, Katy Adkins’ name was called out, and she went on to compete in the second round of the competition against even tougher competitors and an even bigger crowd! Katy, once again, performed brilliantly under pressure and did the school very proud.
Although our four Year 7 students did not progress to the National Final, they should be extremely proud of their achievements, as is the whole school. They are now looking forward to sharing their experiences with their year group and next year, they intend to promote the Spelling Bee Competition with our new Year 7s!
